As a fashion editor by trade and lover of shopping by no choice of my own, I would say it’s never too early to start working on your next season’s wardrobe (even if, in this case, summer is still technically over a month away). After all, it can’t hurt to be prepared for the possibility an unexpectedly early warm day and if you predominately invest in basics (like I do), then you can never really go wrong with a purchase, anyway.

On that note, today, I’m sharing the “boring” but crucial summer-ready pieces I’m already adding to my cart simply because, well, I just can’t wait. From simple sandals to essential shorts to cute cardigans, just keep scrolling to shop all six of the must-have categories and, of course, get a little styling inspiration by way of Instagram while you’re at it.

Button-downs are always considered an essential wardrobe basic, but lately, they’ve been more prominently featured in my IG feed than ever. I love the above styling as well as the idea of wearing one open with a tank under or as a swimsuit cover-up.

When it comes to shorts, this year, I’m skipping trends and opting for simple styles such as denim, suit shorts, comfy bike shorts, and sweatshorts.

In regards to sandals, I’m taking my own advice and investing in simple styles I’ll want to hold on to for years, starting with the above (and below) pair by Senso.

Yes, the cardigan obsession continues, and summer is still a great time to wear them. Whether it’s as a top or a light layer, I’m already eyeing a handful of lightweight styles for the months ahead.

Lately, I’ve been more drawn to basic (or should I say classic) swimwear styles as opposed to their trendier counterparts, and with the temperatures finally starting to rise, I think I can justify buying a suit or two.

Ribbed tanks are kind of like the new white T-shirt, which is why I can’t stop wearing or buying them right now (but also year-round).
