Fall is all about layers, which means one thing: jackets. While I’m always very happy to slip into all of the fun summer things, I get equally excited when fall rolls around and I’m able to start transitioning to jacket weather again. After all, I tend to live in pieces like blazers, so I’m always ready for whatever the new season takes are.

For 2021, there are some major fall jacket trends that are already unfolding among the fashion set that you’ll want to have on your radar. Some trends, like the lilac hue that’s suddenly everywhere, have clearly been adopted from the runways—the color was prominent on the F/W 21 runways at brands like Chanel and Miu Miu. Others, like upsized leather jackets, feel more like an evolution of where street style has headed in the last year with loose, slouchy that are more popular than ever.

Ahead, take a look at the 6 biggest fall jacket trends for 2021. See how insiders are already wearing them and shop the edit.

Biker jackets have long been a closet classic, but in recent seasons I’ve noticed that they’ve been less popular. This season, upsized leather jackets are coming onto the scene and feel like such a fresh take on the piece. This is an item sitting at the top of my personal shopping list.

Jacquemus may have designed the must-have jacket of the season with its stunning tan and cream shearling jacket that has already been spotted on Hailey Bieber. Part of the larger shearling trend, I’m putting my money on this as one of the most important jacket trends of the year.

Oversize blazers are a personal favorite jacket style that I’ve been living in, no matter what the season. At first, I found them a little tricky to wear but now I can’t imagine now owning a few styles.

If you love a cool casual fall look, get yourself a shacket. Part shirt, part jacket, it’s the layering piece to throw on top of just about anything. Plaid versions are especially popping this season.

Puffer jackets are the trend that just won’t quit. At this point, you can consider it to be a staple, so add it to your closet if you haven’t already. I recently chatted with celebrity stylist Dani Michelle, who agrees they’re one of the key buys for fall.

On the F/W 21 runways at brands like Chanel and Miu Miu, lilac is one of the standout colors set to define fall 2021. It’s no surprise, then, that we’re seeing it pop up in a wide range of styles.
