While the rest of the world debates the pros and cons of TikTok versus Instagram and which social media app will ultimately prevail, we’re just over here toggling between the two to bring you the latest on what’s trending in the virtual fashion world. Some could say we’re even a little TikTok obsessed over here, given that we’ve dove into everything from the makeup trends we’re inspired to try to the latest fashion aesthetic to emerge. But in any case, scrolling through the app is our journalistic duty, and on my latest scrolling frenzy, I couldn’t help but notice how the app’s digital creators are putting some new summer trends on the map.

Their outfits incorporate some of the coolest pieces of the moment, and I’m officially inspired to incorporate some of them into my own wardrobe ASAP. With summer on the brain (and more reasons to reemerge into the world), I’ve rounded up the top seven summer TikTok fashion trends I’ve seen, and of course, I am providing all the shopping options to get these looks, too. From the two-piece sets that are quickly becoming a fashion-persona uniform to the ultimate Y2K inspiration, take a look at the best summer style on TikTok below.

Undoubtedly, crochet has been gaining popularity among the fashion set, with free-spirited pieces spotted all over TikTok (and Instagram, too, for that matter). With the resurgence of a certain aesthetic from the ’60s and ’70s, funky crochet pieces fit right into the broader theme of retro fashion we’re seeing right now. Crochet pieces also just happen to be perfect for hot summer days.

The coconut girl aesthetic is a style that’s popping up on TikTok right now and although it encapsulates a general retro beachy vibe, tropical prints, especially Hawaiian-inspired hibiscus florals have become the hallmark of the look, instantly transporting us to a surfer-dotted beach.

Enter the trend I’m dubbing summer sets. In lightweight fabrics like poplin and linen, these duos are defined by two pieces: a button-down shirt with long or short sleeves and coordinating shorts that are somewhat inspired by boxers. Almost as soon as I was aware that these sets were becoming a thing, they suddenly proliferated and started popping up everywhere I looked. The best part? They couldn’t be any easier to style.

Halter tops have been making their debut comeback this summer—have you noticed? The neckline really is everywhere we look but more than anything are these rather specific twisted halter top styles that brands like With Jean and Staud have been putting on the map.

Detached sleeves were a reoccurring theme within the S/S 21 collections, appearing at Chanel and Mugler, so we had a hunch it would be a trend to watch. Lo and behold, the fashion side of TikTok has caught onto the silhouette which tells us it’s a style we’re about to see much more of.

Get your Von Dutch hats ready. The Y2K fashion phenomenon has graced our timelines for a bit, so we weren’t too surprised when trucker hats started to crop up on a few of our favorite fashion people. Newcomer Mowalola Ogunlesi’s logo trucker hat has become a cult item among fashion circles, and early-noughts favorite Von Dutch has experienced a resurgence with Gen Z. It’s definitely divisive, but my inner preteen is ready for this dose of nostalgia.

If there’s one thing TikTok loves, it’s a good oversize ‘fit. Slouchy, ’90s-style looks have always proliferated on the app and the latest trend of varsity jackets fits squarely in that category with its boxy, borrowed-from-the-mens-section look.
