French women have earned the reputation of having somewhat of a classic sartorial aesthetic. This is something that people love about “French style“. So how does their choice of accessories fit into this classic vibe? Let’s break it down a bit.

As you know, most accessories are for the purpose of function, or to add an extra personal, stylish touch to an outfit. Some are for both. In fact, most of the accessories French girls favor are used for both. All of them are right in step with their signature classic aesthetic.

While I may not spend a lot of time on the streets of Paris (unfortunately), I spend a lot of time scrolling through photos of French girls on Instagram, and I see the following eight accessories so often in their chic Parisian photos that I had to call them out. With that, scroll to shop some of their most-worn accessories (and see the proof).

Particularly in the spring and summer, seeing raffia totes large enough for a trip to the market is commonplace. Raffia happens to be a major trend this season, so finding the perfect bag shouldn’t be all that difficult.

When it comes to jewelry, the French typically keep it pretty simple. Gold hoops, in particular, are a daily staple.

A French girl wearing a neck scarf may sound cliché on paper, but the fact of the matter is that they really do wear them.

You won’t find statement belts in most French-girl closets. Simple, classic belts are the go-to.

Recently, flattering oval-shaped sunglasses have replaced cat-eyes as the French favorite. I, for one, am here for it.

Seeing a Chanel flap bag on the arm of French fashion girls is commonplace. In fact, any chain-strap bag seems to be popular. The detail adds a dressy touch to an outfit.

Another one you can file under cliché but true, ballet flats are the French-girl go-to flats style, whether they’re a trend (as they are now) or not.

You won’t see berets on this list, but low-key baseball caps are the cool hat trend the French are embracing.
