Anyone else feel like your entire life, and subsequently, wardrobe, changed overnight when Covid-19 lockdowns began months ago? As time marches on, we all find ourselves adapting more and more to our new (for the time being, at least) low-key way of life, and even though seemingly everything is canceled these days, we don’t want to just stop looking cute. But we also don’t see much of a need for the restrictive and dressy pieces we used to wear. (Remember “night out” clothes?)

Ask any one of our editors and the number one thing they look for in an article of clothing or an outfit these days is comfort. Personally speaking, it just doesn’t feel right to be uncomfortable when at home or going to the grocery store, for example. Curious as to what fashion items my fellow editors have removed from their wardrobes (maybe for good), I made them tell me. In doing so, we’ve also made room for some new wardrobe categories to expand in our closets. Keep scrolling for all the intel and to shop items that are relevant to our changed lives.

“Impractical heels—or really, any shoes are that hard to walk in—feel completely irrelevant to me now after having prioritized all things comfortable for so long. I’ll be saying goodbye to tall heels and favoring shoes with a mid-height heel instead when I want a little bit of lift.”

“While I don’t think I’ll ever truly quit tailored blazers, I’ll definitely be wearing loose, comfortable styles instead of more fitted versions. It’s the easiest way to get away with wearing a T-shirt every day and still look polished TBH.”

“Rigid Skinny Jeans won’t be a priority for me anymore. Instead, I’ll be opting for stretchier skinnies when I’m not wearing my go-to joggers and sweat shorts.”

“I was never very keen on wearing tight dresses, but I’m really over them now. There are plenty of pretty dresses out that that you can actually breathe in, like this Dôen one, so why bother with anything else?”

“I don’t think I’ve put on a pair of jeans since March, but in my “pre-quar” days, I used to love wearing the tightest, most rigid styles and sizes possible. While I know I’ll get back into wearing jeans eventually, I think I’ll pay more attention to comfort when shopping for denim in the future.”

“I never say never, but I highly doubt I’ll ever wear heels over 3 inches anymore. Throughout quarantine, I’ve been so used to wearing comfy sneakers, sporty sandals, and my Birkenstocks that it’ll be hard to arch my feet into anything else!”

“I hate to say this, but I feel I must retire my leather pants for the time being. They will definitely be the first item to make it’s way back into my wardrobe when the time is right, but for now, they just don’t make sense, even once fall hits. Instead, I’m gravitating toward sleek but cozy pants that look polished but feel like pajamas.”
