When it comes to dresses, it tends to feel like people have pretty strong preferences for where they like them to end. I know some who would never be seen out of a midi or max length. But for me, it’s all about the mini. Especially in the summer, minidresses are the most effortless outfit you can consider. Every style looks cute with sandals, clogs, loafers, sneakers, mules… I can keep going. Most can be dressed up, but you always know you are going to look cute and casual no matter what minidress you grab. So here I shopped my favorites from this year: There are puff sleeves and cut-outs, smocked and corseted bodices, flowy skirts and formfitting ones, too; plus an array of shades from pink and yellow to floral and polka dots.

We all know and love puff sleeves, but what about off-the-shoulder puff sleeves? I am into them, especially with this corset-style lining and pretty tiering.

Before 2021, I hadn’t worn pink in decades. I think bringing it into my wardrobe this year has done more for my mood than any amount of vitamin D ever could. There’s also just something so perfect about the balance between structure and airiness in this dress. I know I’ll be wearing it to a variety of events this summer.

The smocked bodice on this dress is taken up a level with the sweetheart neckline. I’ll probably offset the dainty floral pattern with chunky gold necklaces, but you could lean into it with fine jewelry, too.

The subtle cutout in the bodice gives this overwise classic dress a trendy touch. Yellow is having a moment this summer, which is great because everyone looks pretty in this shade.

Recently, I thought about how I haven’t worn a tight-fitting piece of clothing in years, and I had such an urge to change that. The side ruching provides a modern touch to the typical ribbed knit dress and makes it feel just right for summer.

I know daisies were a big source of joy last summer, and I personally don’t want to let that spark die out. I also really love the square neckline and flowy sleeves.

Another formfitting number because once I get something in my head it’s hard to get it out. I’d style this ruffly dress with silver chain jewelry and black oxfords for a dinner with friends, but I might create a more feminine look with heeled sandals depending on my mood.
