While I find summer trends to be fun to admire, nothing feels as good as tapping into fall fashion. Every F/W 22 season, I’m captivated by what comes down the runways for my favorite time of the year. Not only do I like to look at what’s great from an editorial perspective, but it’s my job to analyze the runways and see what will work on a shopping angle.
So, what are the coolest fall 2022 trends to know about? From the ubiquity of sequins to the shifted attention on basics, I have high hopes for the sartorial world come fall. Ahead, I’m highlighting the themes I’ve spotted on the runways and in market that I think are going to make it to the masses. Here, read on for the six key trends that you’ll want to know about before fall comes around.
While there’s been an attention to the grunge aesthetic recently, many designers showed the polar opposite for fall. Collections from Miu Miu, Coperni, and Fendi were filled with pretty details like lace, draping, and floral appliqués galore.
Yes, white tank tops are nothing new, but for luxury leaders like Prada and Bottega Veneta to bring the wardrobe staple onto the runways was a surprise to many. Runway pieces can often be seen as “art” or unwearable, but that wasn’t the case with this trend. Paired with sequin skirts or leather-jeans, the trend shows that you shouldn’t be afraid to stick with just the basics.
Even if you don’t play sports, you can tap into your athletic side with this playful trend. Brands are catching on, as they’ve been collaborating with your favorite sneaker destinations like Nike, Adidas, and New Balance. For those who prioritize comfort in fashion, it’s like this one was made for you.
In summer we paid a lot of attention to saturated shades and while that’s also continuing into the fall, the all-black look took precedence on the runways. As someone who’s steered away from my teenage phase of wearing all black, I’m ready to give it a try again.
Sequins seem to always make their way back onto the fashion scene, so yes, you could say we’re quite stuck on them. This time, sheer sequins were the favored style as it mixes in the ultra-feminine and “pretty” trend mentioned earlier.
There were a lot of colors that stood out to me, but this bright cerulean has been catching my eye repeatedly. I took notice when Balenciaga brought it to my attention, not only on the runway but when Kim Kardashian wore the exact look to the Oscars after party. While the color is already trickling into the current market, I predict it’s just going to get more popular for the season ahead.
