If there’s one thing I can count on in this life, it’s that my skin will become dull and dehydrated if I skip out on a single step of my hydrating skincare routine. You see, over the years, I’ve developed a foolproof rotation of products that I count on to keep my skin plump and bouncy-looking. Every time I have to deviate from that routine to test a new product, I experience a very real kind of hesitation. What if it does more harm than good and throws off my moisture barrier? What if it dehydrates my skin and those pesky fine lines become more visible? I didn’t have that hesitation before trying out the latest product to come across my desk. It’s a $20 hydrating serum that promises to quench the skin with moisture (without stickiness or a heavy residue). I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, and I can confidently say that it’s only benefitted my skin. In fact, as a whole, my skin looks softer and bouncier than it did before. Keep scrolling to see what serum it is.
Yep, it’s another new launch from Versed. The drugstore-favorite skincare brand just launched the Moisture Maker Hydrating Hyaluronic Serum ($20), and it’s chock full of good-for-skin ingredients that can breathe new life into dull and dehydrated skin, like mine.
This serum contains a mix of super hydrating ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid, and snow mushroom extract. By now, we’re probably all familiar with hyaluronic acid. It’s a powerful humectant, which means it attracts (and holds) water in the skin, replenishing cell hydration. While very different than hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid serves a similar function. It’s a peptide that, according to the brand, can hold up to 4000 times its weight in water. It’s just what your skin needs to look plump, bouncy, and, well, hydrated.
The final star ingredient we need to talk about is snow mushroom extract, which is also known as Tremella Fuciformis. This mushroom is an incredibly buzzy ingredient in the skincare industry right now, and it’s showing up in a variety of products and formulations (some people are even calling it the “new hyaluronic acid” in terms of popularity). It’s all thanks to its ability to effectively hydrate the skin and offer potent antioxidant benefits.
My favorite thing about this serum, aside from all the effective and proven ingredients, is the texture. It has a unique jelly-like texture. I expected it to be silky and watery, but if anything, it looks a little bit like gelatin. Upon reading this, you’re probably thinking the same thing I did when I first saw it—that is, if it has a gel-like texture, that means it’ll feel sticky when it’s applied to the skin, right? Surprisingly, it doesn’t. While there’s a little tackiness to it right after it’s applied, it goes away within a minute, and there’s absolutely no residue left behind. It’s almost like the skin drinks it right up.
Like I said before, I’ve been using this serum for a couple of weeks now, and it’s only benefitted my skin. Overall, my complexion looks fresh and hydrated (and it feels that way too). I’ve also noticed that the normally dull and dehydrated skin on my forehead and cheeks looks plumper and bouncier. For only $20 a pop, I think this serum is totally worth it. I’ll definitely keep it on hand as the weather gets cooler and dehydration becomes even more of a threat.
