Before you come for me, hear me out. Jeans are definitely the backbone of my wardrobe most of the time, but lately, I’ve been putting them on hold for an item that’s just as versatile, low-key, and cool as my beloved denim but is much fresher and more current, in my humble opinion. The trend in question? Baggy pants.

Take a glance at the spring/summer 2022 runways and you’ll notice a strong theme throughout the collections: Pants are getting roomier. Whether it’s the relaxed-fit suiting trousers that have become our staples or newer styles like cargos and parachute pants, all signs point to the reign of the baggy-pants trend—even among the Instagram crowd most devoted to classic style. (Looking at you, French girls.) Much to my surprise, fashion people are really selling me on this once-controversial trend and solidifying my decision to put my denim on hold this spring.

Ahead, scroll to shop the baggy pants I’m eyeing if you’re in the mood to freshen up your wardrobe as well.

Style Notes: Go up a size or two in a style of trousers you already love.

I can’t stop thinking about these pants.

H&M never misses.

For $50, you too can look like an It-girl with this pair of baggy trousers.

Style Notes: Look for wide-leg trousers that fit a little lower on the hips—that’s the 2022 vibe.

Okay H&M, I see you.

Another pair I’ve already placed in my cart.

This color is so cool.

Style Notes: If you’re feeling gutsy, pair yours with a crop top and belt à la Miu Miu’s spring 2023 runway.

These will work with sneakers and heels alike.

An updated staple if I’ve ever seen one.

I’ll take the full look, please and thank you.

Style Notes: I’m all about pants that sit right on the hips, and this simple outfit is perfection.

These might have to become my summertime staple.

COS is my go-to source for cool suiting separates.

This editor loves a neutral pant.

Style Notes: Cargo and utility pants look especially cool in a baggier fit.

The pants that all of fashion TikTok has.

Initially, parachute pants scared me, but now, I’m warming up to the idea. I’d style these with retro sneakers and a baby tee.

Can’t-miss cargos.

Style Notes: Long-sleeve baby tees and statement bags are two more fall trends that happen to pair flawlessly with baggy pants.

Relaxed, but not too baggy.

A Gen Z staple.

A “buy now, wear forever” kind of piece.

Style Notes: Fashion people are giving the pants an elevated feel with sleek heels and leather jackets.

An A+ fit.

This color, though.

Low slung + wide leg = peak cool.

Style Notes: When in doubt, keep it simple with tried-and-true basics like a cardigan and ankle boots.

For the effortless vibe.

These low-rise pants are incredibly dreamy.

If it’s menswear inspired, you know it has to be good.
