While Canadian brands might have more visibility than ever before, some of them have been kickin’ it for decades. To celebrate their lasting legacy of offering unique and thoughtfully-made items, two renowned West Coast footwear brands – Vancouver’s John Fluevog Shoes and Victoria’s Viberg – have launched a new style influenced by Fluevog’s boxer-inspired Racer Boot.
Fluevog’s past collabs include working with Anna Sui and l.a.eyeworks, and this is the first time its partnering with Viberg; the brand’s inimitable founder is really stoked about it. “We’re very pleased to celebrate our 50th anniversary with Viberg through this collaboration,” John Fluevog tells FASHION. “Two iconic family owned shoe businesses… Fluevog at 50 years and our friends at Viberg at over 100. It’s a rare thing indeed to last this distance with a specific hands-on craft in Canada, especially in the footwear industry. We have both succeeded, against all odds, and that is something we can be proud of. Thanks to the family at Viberg for keeping the craft going, and may we both see another hundred years of quality handmade footwear.”
The new two-tone leather boot style, which boasts lace options both bold (Fluevog’s hallmark turquoise leather) and understated (black waxed cotton), doesn’t just satisfy the need for an attractive fall weather wardrobe staple; it also satisfies the ability to use your dollars for doing good. 10 per cent of sales from the Fluevog x Viberg Racer Boot will go to the BC Parks Foundation, an independent organization focused on preserving and augmenting British Columbia’s natural habitat.
The Fluevog x Viberg Racer Boots are available through online pre-sale now.
