Whenever there was a rerun of Nancy Meyers’s reboot of The Parent Trap on TV, my mom and I always sat down together to watch it, even if it had only been a few weeks since our last rewatch. Despite the fact that the movie had come out the year I was born, it became my comfort film. Looking back, the plot was a tiny bit concerning, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Not only did it feature a “second chance at romance” plotline (my favorite after “enemies to lovers”), but it was also chock-full of ’90s sartorial goodness. The style essentially tells the story of the film itself. Matching suits, Mary Jane flats, oversize oxford shirts… I could go on.

It seems like the movie still has an effect on culture today, as Meredith Blake style videos have consistently been popping up on my social media feed. While I can appreciate the rich vibes of the film’s villain, Elizabeth James’s minimal yet luxe style really captured me as a child and still does now. When I let our social media manager know my thoughts on doing this story, she had strong feelings.

If you, too, have a fascination with ’90s style and, more specifically, Elizabeth James, you’ll be pleased to know I searched far and wide for 29 chic items she’d buy in 2022. While there may not be any tulle top hats in this mix, there are plenty of finds that will pique your interest.

While Meredith was all for formfitting pieces, Elizabeth preferred the opposite. She would’ve adored this oversize blazer.

The black dress to end all black dresses.

I’m very into how popular Mary Janes are right now.

I would describe Elizabeth’s style as classic and cozy, a vibe this cardigan definitely exudes.

The perfect Elizabeth-style shift dress.

Dainty staple jewelry is a must.

This whole set is a dream.

Elizabeth’s outfit wasn’t complete without her roomy tan tote.

The tied detailing adds an update to this classic blazer.

If The Parent Trap was shot in 2022, this would be an ideal Elizabeth James look.

Breezy.

Comfy flats are necessary.

Borrowing a little from Chessy’s style.

Ethereal.

If you’re looking for a new blazer, this H&M pick is an excellent affordable option.

This cardigan has a vintage feel to it.

Stunning.

Silk pants have been on my 2022 wish list.

I think Elizabeth would’ve been a fan of Khaite.

Another cozy cardigan—sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Classic with just a hint of trendiness.

Zara’s handbags have been stellar recently.

A must-have whether you’re team Elizabeth or Meredith.
