If there’s anything we know about celebs, it’s that they love wearing their hearts on their sleeves (or any other part of their body). Follow along as we track all the new celebrity tattoos 2020 has to offer. If 2019 was any indication, there are sure to be some absolute gems *and* some dubious decisions.

Cardi B

Cardi B has some fresh ink and she’s not afraid to show it off! On June 15, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper shared a photo of her iconic peacock hip tattoo—with a few key updates. “So after ten years I gave my peacock tattoo a makeover. This whole week I been takin hours of pain getting tatted,” the rapper wrote alongside a photo of her updated ink.

In the post, Cardi shared side-by-side photos of her decade-old tattoo, highlighting the changes made, which included brightened colours, added details and a brand-new flower and butterfly alongside the peacock. The makeover was done by tattooist Jamie Schene.

Cardi’s updated ink comes just months after the rapper debuted another large tattoo, this one entirely brand new. On May 23, the rapper share a video and photo of her then-latest (and probably biggest) tattoo–a floral motif that extends from the rapper’s right shoulder, across her back and butt and down her left thigh. “Okay guys! Soooo here it is! It took me several months but I’m finally finished. This is my back tattoo!,” Cardi wrote alongside a close-up video of the work. “It goes from the top of my back to the middle of my thigh,” she continued, before thanking Schene—the artist on this tattoo as well.

In a post to his own Instagram account, Schene detailed the work that went into Cardi’s tattoo, revealing that it took “60+ hours [and] more than 10 cities.”

Vanessa Bryant

Vanessa Bryant, the wife of late basketball star Kobe Bryant,  is showing off her latest tattoos, a tribute to Bryant and their daughter Gianna. The former Los Angeles Lakers player and 13-year-old Gianna died tragically on January 26 in a helicopter crash. ” I wanted my boo boo’s @kobebryant sweet messaged transferred on me,” Bryant captioned a June 9 Instagram video. In the video, Bryant can be seen getting a tattoo by artist Nikko Hurtado on her neck.

In another video, Bryant paid tribute to her late daughter with a tattoo on her wrist. “Shoutout to @nikkohurtado for coming over and helping me get my Gigi’s sweet message transferred on me,” she captioned the video.

Bryant didn’t share what exactly the messages *are* but they’re no doubt incredibly sentimental.

Hayden Panettiere

Returning to Instagram this week after a hiatus, Nashville actor Hayden Panettiere shared some personal photos with fans on June 8, including an image of her latest ink. “Newish ink #TheEyeOfRa,” Panettiere captioned a black and white photo of the new Egyptian symbols on the back of her neck.

The tattoo appears to be pretty meaningful. According to Just Jared, the Eye of Ra is seen as a form of protection in Egyptian culture. Panettiere has been in and out of the public eye since May 2019, when her then-boyfriend Brian Hickerson was arrested for domestic violence against Panettiere. In February 2020, Hickerson was arrested again after allegedly striking Panettiere when the couple were in Wyoming. It’s been a pretty tumultuous year for Panettiere, so we can’t blame her for wanting a little protection and good energy on her side.

Presley Gerber

Another day, another opportunity for Presley Gerber to show off some new ink. Gerber—brother to Kaia and son to iconic supermodel Cindy Crawford—took to his Instagram on April 16 to show off his basketball skills, and some new additions to his growing ink collection. In the Instagram video, which shows the shirtless model sinking a shot, two new tattoos can be spotted on Gerber’s bod. The biggest one is the number “310” across his upper ab area. As Perez Hilton pointed out, it’s mostly likely in reference to Gerber’s area code; 310 covers much of west Los Angeles.

The second, more detailed tat appears to be at Gerber’s hip, with a very darkly shaded gun pointing downwards.

This latest ink comes just under a month after the model debuted a new face tattoo on March 17, adding the Los Angeles Dodgers’ logo to his left cheek.

Gerber also has a face tat by celeb tattoo artist Jon Boy—the word “MISUNDERSTOOD”—which he showed off in a February 7 IG post.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens has been blessing 2020 with a weekly “Thirsty Thursday” series on her IG and this week she had a fun new addition to her grid. On March 5, the singer and actor debuted her latest tattoo, a  piece just over her ribs that features a naked angel. “Divine feminine angel [] not me…my tat. But you can call me that, if you want to,” she captioned an Instagram photo of her new ink. The tattoo was done by popular artist Dragon and looks similar to a December 2019 tat Demi Lovato debuted that featured an angel being carried by doves. Which celeb do you think will go for a “divine feminine” inspired tat next?

Miley Cyrus

On the same day Hudgens revealed her new tat, tattoo fiend Miley Cyrus shared a photo of *her* latest ink on the ’gram, taking to Instagram stories to share the new work by celeb-fave artist Winterstone. “For my siblings @brandicyrus @braisoncyrus @tracecyrus @noahcyrus #TNStrong,” the singer wrote alongside the image. The delicate ink includes a compass-like star pattern with each of her siblings initials. Cyrus’s ink comes only days after she debuted *another* new tattoo on March 2, a Matisse-esque line drawing of a female body on her upper arm, inspired by musician Leonard Cohen and artist Henri Matisse, the latter of whom has become recognizable for his fluid drawings of body forms.

Artsy, Miley!

Cody Simpson

Also showing off their new ink on March 5 was Cyrus’s BF, singer Cody Simpson, who shared a photo of his very own Winterstone tattoo on his Instagram stories: a tiny line drawing of King Neptune (who, according to Roman mythology, was the god of the sea).

Slick Woods

Slick Woods, the badass model who walked down Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty runway while pregnant AF, now has a tat that reads “prolific” above her left eyebrow. It was inspired by the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, whose tragic death last year sent waves of shock and grief through the music industry and beyond. Hussle was born in Los Angeles, just like Woods, and he famously had the same tat (with the same font!) on his right temple. “Nipsey made me do it,” Woods wrote in her IG caption. Hometown hero.

Orlando Bloom

When it comes to parents getting tribute tats for their kids we’re all for it. And Orlando Bloom is the latest celeb to jump on the tattoo tribute train. “New tattoo can you guess who?,” the actor captioned a February 12 Instagram photo of his arm.

But what might just look like a bunch of  dots and lines is actually a super sweet tribute to his son. Blooms’ newest tat is his son Flynn’s name in morse code. The only problem? It’s spelt incorrectly. As some eagle-eyed fans point out, the way the tat is now actually spells…”Frynn.” But don’t worry! According to Bloom’s tattoo artist, the pair will be fixing the tat ASAP.

Amber Rose

Some people wear their heart on their sleeves…and others wear it on their forehead. Model Amber Rose took being a proud mom to the next level over the weekend, debuting two forehead tattoos on February 7 that are a tribute to her children.

In a YouTube video for Cool Kicks—an LA store that sells both new and used sneakers—the model is shown with the words “Slash” and “Bash” inked just below her hairline—a reference to her two sons Sebastian Taylor and Slash Electric Alexander Edwards.

All we can say is that with a commitment to your kids like *that,* Slash and Bash better take good care of their mom in her old age.

Justin Bieber

The Biebs is back at it with the tattoos (seriously, does this man ever let his skin rest?). After announcing his new album will be out February 14, he gave Instagram a sneak preview of the new laurel wreath inked on his collarbone. His IG Stories had a full-body shot, where we can fully see the goods.

So what do all those leaves mean? E! News pointed out that laurel wreaths have been “a symbol of triumph and mobility,” but the more likely bet is that it has a religious meaning, like many of his other tattoos. “Many [view] the wreath as a symbol of God’s victory and power,” they write. According to Cosmopolitan, an article from Old Dominion University suggests it’s a symbol “for those who persevere.”

A screencap from Justin Bieber's Instagram Stories showing his full body of tats, including a large laurel wreath along his collarbone.

Lebron James

Lakers star Lebron James is paying tribute to Kobe Bryant following the death of his former teammate and his daughter Gigi who perished tragically in a helicopter crash on January 26 along with seven other people. At a Lakers workout on January 30, James was seen sporting a fresh tattoo on his thigh that appears to be a black mamba, a reference to Bryant’s nickname. According to TMZ, some fans think it says “Kobe 4 Life” underneath, though it looks more like “Mamba 4 Life” to us. Fellow Lakers player Anthony Davis also got ink remembering Bryant.

Ariana Grande

It was easy to miss Ariana Grande’s new tat during her Cinderella moment at the Grammys on January 26. The singer debuted a wispy butterfly on her upper left arm, peeking out just above her full-length opera glove. Grande has already racked up quite a tattoo collection, although many are tiny and not flashy. Is this a sign of bigger, more noticeable ink to come in 2020?

Vanessa Hudgens

Just after the end of her nine-year relationship with Austin Butler, Vanessa Hudgens went for a dainty sunflower tattoo on her left side boob. The actor posted two pictures and a video on Instagram showing off her new ink, plus an Instagram Story with Swae Lee and Post Malone’s song “Sunflower” playing in the background.

The caption of her first post reads, “And to conclude our #thirstythursday Hahahahaha.” Dragon, a well-known tattoo artist at celeb fave NYC studio Bang Bang Tattoo, was tagged and even appeared in one of the pics.

Is it a coincidence that Hudgens chose a sunflower, which sometimes signifies adoration and loyalty, right after the end of her relationship with Butler? Maybe we’re reading too much into it, but…you never know.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez’s newly released album Rare marks a new chapter for the singer, so it only makes sense that she’d commemorate the experience in the most permanent way possible—with a new tattoo. On January 16, Gomez took to Instagram to show off her latest ink addition, the name of her album in dainty script on her neck.

“Did it again…rare,” the singer captioned her post. Alongside a photo of the delicate new tat, Gomez also shared a video of herself in the tattoo studio posing for photos.

The tattoo was done by celeb tattoo artist Bang Bang, who is a fave of Rihanna and Cara Delevingne. The artist has tatted Gomez several times before, most recently inking the singer with a super religious thigh tattoo before her American Music Awards performance in November 2019.
