COVID-19 cases are increasing in the country, with 312 cases of the rapidly spreading JN.1 variant detected on the second day of the new year. Delhi has reported 16 cases of the JN.1 variant. Kerala has reported 147 cases, followed by Goa with 51 cases, Gujarat with 34 cases, Maharashtra with 26 cases, Tamil Nadu with 22 cases, Karnataka with 8 cases, Rajasthan with 5 cases, Telangana with 2 cases, and Odisha with one case. The World Health Organisation (WHO) classified JN.1 as a “variant of interest” due to its rapid spread.
