I’ve always loved a good hair accessory. From bauble barrettes to multicolored headbands, I  began most days of my childhood with a selection of hair accessories. Headbands were the one accessory that gave me that “princess” moment I loved: I would slide them over my bouncy curls and immediately feel like I was wearing a crown (this was thanks to many hours spent in the company of my favorite Disney movies).

Over time, I discovered other ways to express myself, but when I was 13, I was introduced to the highly glamorous and scandalous world of Gossip Girl and immediately fell in love with Blair Waldorf. I related to her love of hair accessories and the unspoken role of headbands as a personal declaration of her rule over the student body of the fictional Constance Billard School. Today as a beauty editor, I’m still in love with luxury hair accessories that allow me to fully embrace my personal style or add a unique touch to all my outfits.

Luckily, hair accessories are making a major comeback on and off the runways. Sunnie Brook, a celeb hairstylist that has worked with clients including Elizabeth Moss, Ashley Park, and Rita Ora, gave me the scoop on which ones are trending. “We are seeing luxury brands expand into the hair accessory category,” Brook begins. “Hair accessories are a quick and cool way to individualize any simple hairstyle and take it to the next level.”

According to Brook, black leather headbands, plaid fabric headbands, jeweled headbands, oversize bows, and Y2K stretch combs are all hair accessories to look out for. “We are going to see claw clips slowing fading out [in addition to] butterfly clips, metal barrettes clips, skinny headbands, rhinestone word,” she says. Add some color to your wardrobe with a brightly colored embellished headband. This copper-toned one by Lele Sadoughi features a row of ombre hand-embellished glass crystals with 14-karat gold plated prong settings.

There’s nothing better than a hair accessory that work as an everyday crown. Dazzle anyone that comes across your path while wearing this textile headband with eye-catching crystal embellishments.

Merge your preppy and edgy sides with the Cruz Headband by Jennifer Behr. Made from genuine leather, this headband has a flexible no-pinch structure for max comfort and a luxe suede-lined interior.

Embrace your inner Blair Waldorf with this Lele Sadoughi. This slim headband features a timeless plaid fabric design in green, blue, yellow, and white with a sweet bow detail at the top.

Looking for something bold and chic? The Nova Headband by New York–based brand Shashi brings the drama with enchanting bead and crystal embellishments and a thick band.

I love how effortlessly elegant this ruched headband is. Crafted from smooth blush-colored satin, it’s embellished with faux-glass crystals to add a hint of shine and shimmer to any look.

Knotted headbands are also having a moment. This one, also by Lele Sadoughi, combines a versatile, jacquard-printed cotton fabric with elegant knot detailing at its top.

I can’t stop thinking about this bow barrette by Anthropologie. Available in a selection of four gorgeous colors, this accessory will make the perfect statement piece that can be worn literally anywhere and still look amazing.

If you haven’t shopped Free People’s expansive collection of hair accessories, you’re majorly missing out. This Jackson Bow Barrette, for example, is the epitome of sophistication with its oversize velvet bow and eye-catching rhinestone embellishments and beaded details.

Everyone needs a good satin bow in their rotation of hair accessories (if you don’t have one, take this as your sign to go for it). Shashi’s Satin Bow is perfectly oversize and features an easy-to-use barrette clip back.

All lovers of patterns and bows (or even better, patterns on bows) need this Silk Bow Hair Clip from Anthropologie. It comes in three colors and features a chic floral print.

These have to be the most classic and petite hair accessories I’ve ever seen. Marcus Adler’s stunning Pearl Bobby Pin set is crafted from delicate rhinestones and acrylic pearls.

Here’s one for all the lovers of adding minimalist touches to your looks. This set of two Mini Classic Rectangle Barrettes by designer France Luxe are as sophisticated as it gets.

Who said bobby pins have to be boring? Deepa Gurnani proves all naysayers wrong with this set of sparkling gem-encrusted pins set in glass and vegan leather.

Tired of pearls yet? I’m not. Trust me—this set of two pearl barrettes by Anthropologie would look extra perfect when worn with the aforementioned Marcus Adler Pearl Bobby Pins.
