We all want our hair to look shiny and healthy at all times, but as I’m sure you know, that isn’t always the reality. We put our hair through a lot including bleaching , heat styling , and even (if you’re like me) going overboard on products that can dry your strands out . Sometimes, you need a little help in the shine department or a way to at least fake healthy-looking hair for a day. That’s where hair shine sprays come in. Stylists consider them a secret weapon when styling celebs because they can add instant sheen and nourishment to dry or dull hair instantly.
A lot of the time, you don’t even have to use strictly a shine spray—there are a ton of conditioning sprays out there on the market that add essential vitamins and nutrients to the hair that add shine naturally. If you’re curious about which ones stylists can’t stop using, keep scrolling below. They’re sharing their tried-and-true favorites.
“This is not a traditional ‘shine’ product, but it hydrates the hair, helps to smooth frizz, and prevents breakage and damage making your hair healthier and shinier. Healthy hair equals shiny hair. Morete oil and other organic plant extracts help give this product its power.”—James Corbett, colorist and owner of James Corbett Studio
“Thicker Quicker is primarily a volumizing spray, but the natural ingredients also provide the hair with beautiful shine and flexibility. Most volumizing sprays tend to have a matte effect, not to mention that they leave the hair feeling sticky or brittle. Thicker Quicker leaves the hair feeling naturally thicker and [looking] shinier.”—Michael Van Clarke, master stylist and owner of Michael Van Clarke Salon
“This also isn’t a traditional shine spray, but I like shine sprays that style as a byproduct of conditioning. With vitamins E and B5, this finishing spray conditions by vitamin enrichment, leaving hair with a sheen that is shiny but not greasy.”—Corbett
“I created the Mydentity MyStardust Shine Spray to have a product that gives weightless, instant shine that you can layer without your hair becoming greasy or weighed down, so, of course, it’s my favorite shine spray! I love that I can create beautiful shine bands after curling hair for added dimension or allover shine for healthy looking hair.”—Guy Tang, colorist and owner of Mydentity Hair Care
This lightweight, non-greasy formula is so much more than just a spray. It includes sea buckthorn oil which is rich in omega fatty acids to enrich strands with hydration while also smoothing out frizz and adding extra vibrancy to your hair color.
Celebrity stylist Andrew Fitzsimons offers this sleek, glossy finishing spray from his eponymous haircare line. I have this spray myself and really like the hydrating finish and extra shine it offers on days my locks could use a little boost.
Living Proof’s Style Lab Flex Spray offers a few different products in one. It provides a medium hold to style and finish, can be used as a heat protectant, and adds megawatt shine for healthier-looking strands. The secret is in the flexible web technology, a complex optimized to maximum versatility allowing you to use it on damp hair or dry hair.
Another multitasking spray I love is IGK’s Good Behavior Spray. This one is more of a priming spray as it detangles, acts as a heat protectant, controls frizz, and enhances shine. Some shine sprays can be a bit drying, but this one has strengthening spirulina protein and hydrating coconut oil to work well with naturally drier hair textures, too.
This spray from Aquage is best used in tandem with your flat iron or curling iron to add extra shine. It’s a great option for thicker hair types as it can smooth out texture and protects against heat damage. The ultra-light silicone ingredients and emollients also improve the hair’s overall texture so it appears smooth and sleek.
Garnier offers a great drugstore option that’s infused with argan oil and fruit micro waxes to seal in shine and moisture to the hair.
Shine of the Times can be used as a final touch in your routine to add a glossy finish to your style. It also smooths out strands and adds a little hydration boost to give second-day hair a boost.
This weightless, thermal active shine spray from Chi helps repair split ends, adds diamond-level shine, and smooths down any flyaways without being oily.
If you have color-treated hair, try Kenra Professional’s shine spray. In addition to giving hair a natural-looking sheen, it also contains UV protectants to help guard color against the sun and premature fading.
