There is a 28-year age difference between my mother and me. (I’m 35, and she’s 63.) Despite the age difference, we tend to gravitate toward similar items because our aesthetics often mirror each other. Although, this probably isn’t so shocking given that age has nothing to do with what you should or shouldn’t wear. I should also note that cold weather is my favorite. While my mom really loves summer, she adores winter from a sartorial standpoint. And yep, there are actually five trends for this season that we’re both loving.

Below, you’ll uncover the still-relevant in 2024 trends that actually started in 2023, and will still be essential for the months of cold weather ahead. You’ll notice everything from the color of the moment to a few trends that are highly wearable and could be styled in a multitude of ways.

Keep scrolling to check out the winter trends that get a yes from us, including visual inspiration for each from various fashion people.

The color of the season? Red. The hue has actually been a front-runner among the fashion crowd all year, and it will continue to rise in popularity through fall and winter. We’re both excited to incorporate red with neutrals this season.

Super-slouchy blazers will still hold strong, but tailored styles will have a moment. My mom is particularly excited for this one, as she thinks that the ideal silhouette will make her simple winter outfits feel more elevated.

The perfect winter wardrobe wouldn’t be complete without a cozy knit. Oversize styles—like longline silhouettes (or even a knit dress)—are where it’s at. I’ll be pairing mine with trousers, and my mom will style her go-to pick with jeans.

A leather jacket and winter dressing just goes together perfectly. Relaxed styles feel especially cool. We both love the look.

In terms of denim, it’s the darker washes that we’re both into because of the polished feel.
