I can’t wait for fall outfits . Don’t get me wrong—I love slipping into swimsuits and sandals, printed dresses and slides—but I’m a huge boots and layers person so the approaching fall season has me excited for a whole new way of dressing. Plus, as a fashion editor, I’m often counting down all of the trends spotted on the runways and figuring out ways to incorporate them into my real-life wardrobe. So, what are the fall capsule wardrobe essentials I’ll be investing in for the season ahead?
For fall, I’m stocking up on chic but stylish basics that I know I’ll be wearing over and over again. Yep, I’ll be continuing to wear pieces like slouchy trousers and leather Bermuda shorts that I’ve recently adopted, but will be adding seasonal finds like chunky knee-high boots , tube skirts , stirrup leggings , and scrunched heels that are destined to be everywhere in a few months. Ahead, shop the fall capsule wardrobe I’ll be wearing in no time.
Here’s a trend I’m personally behind. While I love tailoring, I’m seeing more slouchy, comfortable trousers and suiting bubble up so I’ve been quick to adopt them into my wardrobe. These Albus Lumen pants happen to be one of my favorite closet essentials that I’ll be wearing long into fall.
No fall wardrobe is complete without some great knitwear. Ribbed versions with polo collars are popping up everywhere and will no doubt be a fashion person essential.
There’s no doubt that Bermuda shorts are only gaining steam and will continue to be a major trend this fall. While you might be wearing them now with slides or heels, pair them with tall boots for the season ahead.
Recently, I’ve been wearing tube tops on repeat and I’m equally excited about the rising tube skirt trend I’m seeing all over Instagram. The ’90s-inspired piece is the comfortable-meets-cool staple that is about to be everywhere.
While fall is typically stocked with neutral shades, fuchsia will be one strong color that will be in the mix—whether worn as a pop of color or head-to-toe.
Recently spotted in Prada’s Resort 21 collection, I’m predicting that stirrup leggings will be huge for fall. I know I’m certainly looking for a fresh take on the wardrobe staple right now.
Pared-back, ’90s-inspired jersey dresses are about to be everywhere. Not only are they comfortable, but they’re the ultimate layering pieces for your fall wardrobe.
Spotted on the F/W 20 runways including Bottega Veneta and Khaite, chunky boots are getting a new spin this fall—this time in a knee-high version.
If you’re looking for a layering piece that’s anything but boring, look no further than the printed turtleneck. Already a favorite of Who What Wear’s editor in chief, Kat Collings, these are popping up in the new arrivals sections at all of our favorite retailers, so you know they’re going to be everywhere.
From puffy heels to ruched versions, we continue to see interesting textures and shapes in the world of footwear. The next one to look out for? Scrunched heels like these ones from Wandler and Porte & Paire.
Khaite put knit bras on the maps and they will continue to be the trend every fashion person will wear moving into fall. Comfy but endlessly chic, this will be a standby next season.
