Every fashion person has that one thing in their closet that they turn to again and again. For Who What Wear editors, that item is a matching set for spring. I caught up with my colleagues (and friends!) Anna LaPlaca, Sierra Mayhew, and Eliza Huber to see why they’re claiming sets as a spring wardrobe must-have. “There’s never been an easier way to look put-together in seconds,” claims Mayhew. “It’s perfect because I can wear a set for a special occasion and also as separate pieces to create multiple outfits. I’m currently only making smart money moves with my wardrobe, so versatility is at the top of my list of priorities.”
When it comes to finding the right matching set to add to your closet, they all agreed that Paige is the first place to look. And with one scroll through the site, it’s clear why. With everything from a tailored, pink shorts suit to an all-black ensemble, the brand has a set for everyone (and every occasion). Keep scrolling to see how they’re styling their new pieces with other spring faves from Paige.
“I’m a sucker for any outfit recipe that requires very little effort without sacrificing style, so naturally, matching sets are commonplace in my sartorial rotation. Nothing feels more put-together and professional than a good suit, so when I need a boost to get me through a hard or busy work day, I’ll always throw on a suit with some heels to lift myself up a bit. That said, I never want my suits to feel boring or expected, which is why this mauve, belted suit with flared trousers called out to me so much. Though neutral, the color is totally different from any I’m used to seeing or wearing. What I love about this suit is how versatile it is. It works for any weather and any occasion—I can swap the blazer with a cozy sweater on a chilly day or wear it with jeans for a more casual feel.”
“I have a rule that when I’m eyeing a clothing item and it’s also available as a matching set, I have to get the coordinating piece—no questions asked. I mean, it’s a ready-made outfit that does all the styling work for you, not to mention that each piece can by styled on its own, making them a savvy investment. So of course, I had to grab this skirt set from Paige. I was drawn in by the adorable print: the dainty cherries, strawberries, and butterflies are such a fun alternative to spring’s clichéd florals and make for a cute conversation starter. I’m not usually one to wear a lot of prints or colors, but the black background actually makes it so approachable. I paired it with a green sweater and white wide-leg jeans (an easy base to repeat throughout the spring and summer) for a bit of color and with a jean jacket and white tank for a more classic take.”
“Nothing makes me more excited than wearing a suit—it’s an easy way to tell people you mean business. And when your suit is as pink as mine is, it also shows that you like to have fun. Wearing this look already has me planning a lot of adventures this summer. It’s the kind of look that you would wear from the office to the Hampton Jitney for a weekend at the beach. I originally thought my favorite way to wear this suit was as a set, but then I saw these white jeans and instantly fell in love. The cropped blazer pairs so well with these jeans because it stops right where the high waistline begins, giving the illusion of a taller figure. I also loved giving the shorts a moment to shine with this simple pink cardigan (a must for New York’s unpredictable spring days).”
