I’m quite fond of a good old-fashioned closet clean-out, but something I hate getting rid of is shoes. I’m not someone who often wears my shoes out to the point of having to just throw them away, but when I go years without wearing a pair, it’s obvious that they’re just taking up space in my closet.

I’ve just returned from an end-of-summer vacation, and I’ve never been more in the mood to free up some space for some new fall items. And since boots take up a significant amount of room, they’re up first. There are several styles I’ve admittedly been hanging onto for far too long, and I’m finally ready to part with them. The good news is that it’s an incentive to do some shopping new boots.

Scroll on to find out which dated boot trends I’m parting with, and which fresh trends I’m trading them for this fall.

Remember when white boots were the only boot color that mattered? While I’m certainly not opposed to wearing them, I’m much more interested in red boots this season. In fact, it’s the boot trend I might be buying first.

While I don’t hate slouchy boots, I find them difficult to style. The new era of sock boots is upon us, and there are so many more unique styles than the stretchy neoprene ones that were everywhere the last time they were a trend.

Something I definitely don’t need to buy any more of is plain round-toe boots. There are far more interesting options out there. For instance, a style that’s making a big comeback this fall pointed-toe boots. I like how they instantly make any outfit look cool, and since I haven’t bought a pair in awhile, I’ll be adding them to my shopping list.

The Western boot trend continues this fall, and every brand from affordable to luxury is offering up their take on the trend. I’m partial to Khaite’s perfect Western boots but am keeping an open mind.

Miu Miu re-opened our eyes to moto boots last fall and now everyone has officially caught on. I prefer the more subtle takes on the biker trend, but there are plenty of options to choose from of varying degrees of moto-ness.

I still love lug-sole boots for inclement weather, but the super chunky ones that everyone was wearing a few seasons ago aren’t really speaking to me anymore. I’d rather put my money toward a pair of sleek, timeless riding boots.
