If you gravitate toward sweet floral fragrances, you’re going to love this one from Kilian. It has key notes of orange blossom, vanilla absolute, and marshmallow. But it’s not just sugary sweet—an amber base adds some warmth.
Chanel perfumes are total classics, and Chance is no exception. It’s a light, fruity, and floral fragrance that is just so fresh.
Senior fashion editor Kristen Nichols said this one is her signature scent: “There is simply nothing more intoxicating than Portrait of a Lady from Frédéric Malle—the fragrance that has a permanent place on my vanity. A beautiful blend of Turkish rose with a spicy, smoky base of sandalwood and frankincense, I could actually bathe in this scent, which I just might start doing now that a shower cream has also been released.”
Glossier’s You perfume is always a popular favorite. It really has a little bit of everything—bright and spicy pink pepper, woodsy ambrette seeds and ambery ambrox, and iris flower.
This fragrance is woody, aromatic, and so inviting. Senior fashion editor Allyson Payer said, “Byredo Gypsy Water is one of those scents that are very distinctive but difficult to describe. Since it’s both woody and spicy (thanks to the base notes of vanilla, sandalwood, and amber), it works year-round, day and night. It’s very popular, but it’s not one that I detect a ton out and about. And when I’m wearing it, people often ask me what it is, which is a sign that it’s appealing without being too recognizable.”
Warm and sumptuous, Ellis Brooklyn’s Bee fragrance has notes of dark rum, honey, and vanilla bean. Wear this when you really want to treat yourself.
Tom Ford makes a lot of memorable fragrances, but for senior beauty editor Erin Jahns, Bitter Peach is her absolute favorite. “Bitter Peach is everything I want in a perfume, and it’s become one of my most treasured beauty possessions ever since its 2020 launch,” she said. “I have never smelled something so juicy, complex, and all-around addicting. It lingers and melts into your skin for a really warm and beautiful finish, but the mix of peach, davana (an aromatic herb native to India), and patchouli is so unique—I’ve never smelt anything like it.”
One reviewer wrote of this fragrance, “I love, love, love this fragrance! It is sensual and earthy. Strangers stop me to compliment how I smell. People who don’t wear fragrance have complimented me wearing this wonderful musk.” It has top notes of bergamot nectar and orange blossom; middle notes of rose, lily, ylang-ylang, and neroli; and base notes of tonka bean, white patchouli, and musk.
Imagine a classic floral perfume with a fresh twist—that’s what you get with this scent. The fragrance contains notes of jasmine, rose, citrus, and white musk.
Mandarin, basil, and amber don’t really seem like scents that would go together, but they really do in this fresh and unique fragrance. It’s senior market editor Judith Jones’s favorite Jo Malone scent: “The scent of lime adds a vibrant, citrusy freshness and tropical twist to herbaceous basil and thyme. It hits my nose just right! I always get a ton of compliments when I wear it.”
Infused with notes of pear, rose, and vanilla, this fragrance is just so delicious. But it’s not sickly sweet and contains warm amber to ground it.
If you’re looking for something super fresh and summery, you’ll like this one from Clean Reserve. It has notes of ambrette seeds, pear nectar, liquid musk, and wood. Jahns said, “I get sick and tired of perfumes quickly, so the fact that I am still just as fanatical about this early 2020 launch from Clean Reserve says a lot. The first time I sprayed it in the office (pre-pandemic) and wore it, everyone around my desk immediately jerked their heads around to ask what it was. That was the start of my love affair, and it’s only intensified since.”
Editor in Chief Kat Collings said you shouldn’t be wary of patchouli, adding that it’s crisp, green, and surprising: “It’s also a smoky perfume with notes of sandalwood. I have been smitten ever since the Le Labo salesperson said it’s an unusual choice. Santal 33, who?”
For something earthy, woody, and mysterious, look no further than Tom Ford’s Oud Wood. It has rich notes of oud wood, sandalwood, and Chinese pepper. Seriously, it’s a unique fragrance that’s just so intriguing and sumptuous.
Audience engagement editor Jasmine Fox-Suliaman has been wearing this fragrance since high school. That’s how much she loves it. “I know that you’re ‘supposed’ to evolve your scent palette over the years, but honestly, I have been unable to find a scent that melds as well with my natural scent as Juicy Couture’s Viva La Juicy,” she said. “I still love this scent because its mix of vanilla, jasmine, and mandarin isn’t overpowering but still is poignant. Basically, every spritz brings me so much joy, and until I find another perfume that does that, I’ll be standing by this scent for a while.”
Inspired by the warm and cozy feeling of a crackling fireplace, this fragrance is just so comforting. It has notes of clove oil, chestnut accord, and vanilla accord.
With notes of ylang-ylang, Damascus rose, and jasmine, Dior’s J’adore is just a sexy floral fragrance, plain and simple. One reviewer wrote, “People will hug you when you wear this perfume. Something about it is deeply comforting, like a luxury hotel suite with a fantastic view. This is not an experience unique to me.
