I’ve always been a strong advocate for reassessing my wardrobe in preparation for fall. And I’d be lying if I said my closet wasn’t in desperate need of an overhaul. A true minimalist at heart, I believe it’s good practice to clear out any items that no longer get the love they deserve before filling my closet with their on-trend replacements. That said, all the covetable fall pieces I’m eager to shop this season are motivating me to get started on this much needed clean-out. Keep scrolling to read about the six outdated items I’m ready to toss and the six I can’t wait to swap in.

The fall 2023 runways saw a proliferation of tailored garments that accentuated the waist. Designers including Alaïa, Max Mara, Proenza Schouler, and Stella McCartney veered away from the boxy, oversize blazers and jackets that epitomized the era of comfort dressing. Peplum styles, belted waistlines, and hourglass silhouettes are the key elements to perfecting this polished look, and I couldn’t be more on board.

This sleek leather jacket is the perfect way to tap into the power-dressing trend. It’s begging to be worn for a night out on the town.

The peplum shape has taken this everyday knit to the next level.

The knotted waist detailing and navy blue feel so sophisticated.

I’ve been searching for a chic belted blazer to wear to the office this fall. This one by Madewell has my full attention.

While the low-rise jean movement will forever be a controversial fashion trend, there’s a certain freedom that comes with wearing this relaxed style. Lately, my high-rise jeans have been feeling oddly suffocating, and while I do appreciate the way they elongate my legs, I think it’s time to part ways. The wide-leg silhouette is still achievable with low-rise denim, and it never fails to look effortless.

It’s giving off-duty model.

White denim is a wardrobe staple, and the sale price makes this pair an absolute steal. I’d style these jeans with a crisp button-down shirt and flats.

The Gen Zer in me is freaking out right now. (The baggier the better, right?)

I want it. I need it. I’ve got to have it.

Though micro mini handbags are a cute and fun accessory, sometimes I need a style that prioritizes functionality. I want to be able to throw all my daily essentials in one place without having to worry about whether they’ll fit. So it’s no surprise that oversize shoppers have become my latest obsession. There are so many great styles to choose from (the hobo being my favorite), and the slouchy shape adds a unique detail to any ensemble.

The vegan suede adds just the right amount of texture, and it’s super soft.

I love the modern design of this handbag. It’s the perfect everyday accessory for running errands and going to the office.

The roominess of this large tote makes it exceptionally travel-friendly.

This is a timeless handbag I could see myself wearing for years to come.

Now that the weather is cooling down, I’ve been trying to find ways to add a little more coverage without sacrificing style. Mock-neck tops are the perfect transitional pieces and will carry me through the fall and winter (as opposed to sweetheart necklines, which expose my neck and chest). The sleek silhouette that mock necklines bring to any outfit is so stunning. Wear them in the form of a wool bodysuit, cashmere dress, or sleeveless top.

This wool bodysuit is great for extra warmth. This staple pairs effortlessly with trousers, maxi skirts, and denim.

Cashmere season is upon us, and the mock neckline on this dress is the definition of understated elegance.

The approachable price point makes this chic top an instant addition to my shopping cart.

The soft ribbing at the hem and neckline effortlessly elevates this wardrobe essential.

Knee-high boots are a classic fall staple that fashion people excitedly turn to year after year. Though my Chelsea boots have served me well, nothing compares to the boost of confidence I feel when I’m wearing knee-high boots. They’re chic enough to be the star of any outfit, and there are endless options, which only makes me want to purchase two (or three) pairs.

Black suede knee-high boots truly never go out of style. This pair offers just the right amount of height.

These riding boots would look so cute with a miniskirt and warm sweater. The brown leather and gold hardware give this pair a vintage feel.

Croc-embossed leather boots are the number-one item on my fall shopping list. It’s safe to say I’m drooling over this pair by J.Crew.

I’d wear these on those nights when I’m feeling extra bold.

My co-workers agree that tailored vests were a hot commodity this spring and summer. And since I’m not ready to say goodbye to this cherished separate, I’m opting for lightweight puffer vests to style this fall and winter. Practical and chic, puffer vests are the perfect layering piece and can be worn over just about anything.

This khaki puffer vest feels so airy yet works wonders against the cold. It’s a stylish piece you won’t regret buying.

The ideal layer to add to cold-weather streetwear ensembles.

This elevated puffer vest features two mini neck buckles that give it that classic Ralph Lauren flair.

This sporty separate has “cool” written all over it.
