Japan’s environment and economy, trade and industry ministries have cleared a plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 60 per cent from fiscal 2013 levels by fiscal 2035—higher from its 2030 target of a 46-per cent cut.
A meeting of the ministries agreed to a longer-term 73-per cent emissions cut target by fiscal 2040.
Some experts criticised the target as not being enough to meet climate goals.
