Even if you don’t work in fashion or its surrounding entities, I can almost guarantee that you’ve seen the picture of a flannel-clad Kate Moss walking in the spring/summer 2023 Bottega Veneta show at some point in the last seven or so months. Casual and cool yet wildly elevated, Moss’s look, as well as the others from the collection that featured the woodsy staple, did more for flannels than Mr. Brawny ever could. And now that spring has actually arrived, we’re finally starting to see their online popularity play out in real life.
Case in point: Earlier this week, Jennifer Lawrence was spotted walking in New York City with her husband Cookie Maroney wearing a simple jeans-and-tee look that was then elevated with Alaïa sunglasses, sold-out Adidas Sambas, and a gray-and-black flannel not unlike the styles that shocked the runways back in September with their simple yet alluring qualities. Though I’ve yet to determine the designer responsible for Lawrence’s perfectly cropped flannel, given her affinity for luxurious labels like The Row and Alaïa, I can only imagine that it won’t come cheap, which is why when I remembered just how large the flannel offering was and always has been at H&M, I couldn’t resist looking for an affordable alt.
