Kate Moss began her relationship with French jewellery brand Messika in 2019, staring in a campaign for the brand along side Joan Smalls and Sylvia Hoeks. It was this campaign that launched a significant relationship between Messika’s founder and artistic director, Valérie Messika, and Moss. Together, the two women have created a collection of almost 100 pieces of high jewellery set to launch this October.
The pair started the process by taking a look at Moss’s own jewellery box. The fashion icon who is know for her rock-and-roll-meets-bohemian style pulled out treasures both old and new that inspired their designs. According to Messika, Kate’s jewellery box is filled with, “colour, XXL motifs, [and] large decorative headpieces across Aztec culture and Art Deco style.” These pieces informed design decisions resulting in a vast and eclectic collection. Some highlights include knotted diamond strands to form an abstract letter K and diamond encrusted tassels. The brand also used the collection to expand beyond their use of solely white diamonds in high jewellery to include malachite, turquoise and mother of pearl along side their sparkling stones.
Despite the collection being made from precious materials, Moss suggests customers “dress it down to create a simple statement.” She adds, “I love wearing diamonds with denim shorts and a T-shirt.” We can officially add dripping with diamonds to the things we love about Kate Moss’s style.
