This month marks 10 years since Canada became the first country to welcome Netflix outside of the United States, and to celebrate the milestone the streaming service is releasing a special collection of films and television shows with a Canadian connection.
Housing over 300 titles, the collection highlights the plethora of Canadian creatives—from actors and producers to VFX and animation—responsible for making some of your favourite content. Starting today, Netflix users will be able to access the collection, spanning various categories like Filmed in Canada and Canadian Talent, at Netflix.com/CelebratingCanada. Films and television shows in the collection include 6 Underground, Room, Kim’s Convenience, The Umbrella Academy and of course multi-Emmy-winning Schitt’s Creek.
And to help Netflix Canada celebrate its 10 years, a group of beloved Canadian actors—including Finn Wolfhard, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Ryan Reynolds—sent in a slew of birthday messages. Catch their video messages below:
“In the 10 years since Canadians first welcomed Netflix into their homes, we’ve been thrilled to share so many great stories with our members and to bring some great Canadian entertainment to the world,” Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix said in a statement. “Today Canada stands as one of our most important production centres, and we look forward to many more years of supporting local creators and bringing members more of the stories they love.”
