The number of national waterways has risen to 111 now from five in 2014, minister of ports, shipping and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal informed parliament.
Over $707.5 million has been invested to rejuvenate inland waterways in the last decade.
The volume of cargo transported by inland waterways has increased from 18.07 million MT in FY14 to 132.89 million MT in FY24, with a CAGR of 22.1 per cent.
