Sephora Canada invites you to immerse yourself in the world of Sephora Illumination, for one week only
This week in Toronto, local media and beauty influencers gathered to witness the unveiling of Sephora Canada’s new interactive installation: Sephora Illumination, powered by Colour iQ. Designed using over 140,000 shades of Canadian skin tones acquired through the use of Sephora’s Colour iQ technology, the installation aims to showcase the diversity of beauty across the country. Triggered by movement, Sephora Illumination displays thousands of animated skin-toned particles that swirl in mesmerizing formations to deliver a one-of-a-kind visual experience to each observer.
At the unveiling on May 24, beauty brand founders Danessa Myricks of her eponymous label and Basma Hameed of Basma Beauty engaged in an inspiring panel discussion about their paths to breaking into the beauty industry as women of colour. Both women — whose brands are available in Sephora — seek to cater to all skin tones and types in their product portfolios, making them and their work the perfect embodiment of the diversity reflected in the installation.
“The fact that somebody is recognizing that [all of] these skin tones exist is the first really big statement,” Myricks shared with FASHION on the power of the Colour iQ service that fuelled the instillation. “If I think about my journey through beauty and how much easier it would’ve been for me to just walk into a store where somebody could just scan me and tell me all of the things in the building that worked for me — I think that’s genius.”
If you’re in Toronto, you can head to 100 Bloor Street West (right across the street from the Sephora Canada store) between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. from now until June 1 to check out the installation for yourself, at no cost. Plus, Sephora Canada advisors will be on-site providing Colour iQ shade matches (which are also available in Sephora stores) to all visitors. Run, don’t walk!
