I’m a New York City transplant, and I feel like that’s most apparent in the way that I dress. I’ve managed to bring elements of my Florida wardrobe—brightly colored sundresses, sunglasses for absolutely every occasion, and flip-flops (don’t judge me)—into my tiny closet in Brooklyn. No matter how drastically my personal style evolves, I can’t stop those small parts of my hometown from creeping into every look I create.
Now that a new season is upon us and our wardrobes are due for a change, I’m turning to a retailer that’s stuck around throughout my childhood and continues to pique my interest in adulthood: Walmart. The new-arrivals section is a treasure trove of fall clothing, shoes, and accessories. You seriously can’t beat the on-trend finds at such great price points, and some of my favorite fashion people agree. They all created one head-to-toe look from Walmart, and I’m giving them 10s across the board. If you want to see the stylish outfits that they put together, all of which are inspired by the cities they grew up in, just keep scrolling.
“I grew up in Pittsburgh and now live in Chicago, so being able to style clothes for all seasons in the city has been something I’ve loved to do since I was a little girl! I’ve always had a special place in my heart for fall fashion specifically. Over time, I have created what I call my ‘uniform,’ which is my go-to look when I don’t want to think too hard about what I’m going to wear. The look usually consists of a good pair of jeans, a plain T-shirt, a black or tan jacket, and either loafers or sneakers. And the look is never complete without my slicked-back bun and accessories. What I love most about this outfit combo is that it can take me from morning coffee meetings to date night. It’s casual yet elevated and perfect for brunch, business meetings, and everything in between.”
“I grew up in a Michigan suburb where there wasn’t much to do but shop. But Michigan has always been a place where dressing for comfort is key. Thanks to my background, I’m an expert at comfortable style. Styling this cozy cardigan with a pair of wide-leg leather pants and textured jewelry made me feel right at home. In fact, when I load up my carry-on to spend some time at home, this exact look tends to be my uniform. I love wearing leather pants since they’re a way more fun take on jeans, and in Michigan, sweaters are all you need to know. One of the activities on my fall bucket list is apple picking, and this is the exact outfit I have in mind for my trip. I also look forward to grabbing a coffee and exploring the city while the weather still allows it.”
“Over the years, I’ve created a wardrobe that’s highly versatile with pieces that are chic yet simple. During my time in Boston, specifically, I really built out my current wardrobe that’s filled with items that are easy and comfortable that work for a busy life on the go. Now that I’m in Wisconsin, it’s the elevated basics that can be dressed up or down that I lean into most. This look is essentially my new fall uniform: a striped shirt, knit around the shoulders (one of my favorite styling ideas to elevate a look), jeans, and sneakers. Given that versatility is key for me, I like this look because it’s polished yet no-fuss, and I can wear it while I’m working from home or when I head out for dinner. It’s also important to note that I sized up in the pieces for a more relaxed fit, which I find more modern.”
“Growing up in Miami, I’ve seen the city rapidly change through the eyes of my youth to my teenage and adult eyes. It’s a vibrant city with a bustling nightlife, so much so that the plan du jour often happens on the fly—you don’t know what you’re doing, where you’re going, or who you’ll be seeing, but as spontaneous as Miami is, you’re still expected to dress for the occasion. This look is incredibly casual for Miami standards but perfect for a gal on the go. The short dress and leather jacket feel ultra cool and perfectly wearable for Miami’s up-and-coming arts scene. I picked smart accessories—a small bag, flat and comfortable shoes, and simple gold hoops—to tie the look together. I’d wear this look to grab a pre-gallery drink at one of Miami’s swanky new hotel bars. In fact, test-driving the look in New York proved to be the perfect training ground for the leather jacket and minidress combination, earning me tons of compliments.”
“I’m from San Diego, so my style is pretty relaxed and casual on a daily basis as I live in a beach city! My look is a very San Diego/SoCal look and very typical for me during this time of year. My personal style changes a lot in the fall. It’s edgier while staying true to classics. I love baggy boyfriend denim, and I added the clogs because I love being comfortable and they’re a classic shoe that’s trending right now. Puffer jackets are also a huge trend this time of year. I love this one because it’s perfectly oversize and very lightweight. I’m wearing this look to run errands, to the Saturday flea markets, and vintage shopping!”
