There are times I go into my closet full of clothes and find nothing but individual items that don’t go with anything. Why do I have sheer turtlenecks with nothing to go underneath them? Why do I own 10 workout tops and no workout leggings? As a Type B personality, it’s unsurprising that my closet is as disorganized as my brain. However, a closet with missing pieces to its puzzle is nothing a shopping trip can’t fix.

Additionally, I must prepare for a heavy winter, so I’m on the lookout for new knits, jackets, tights, woolen pants—basically anything that can prevent me from being rendered frozen in this brittle northeast cold. In times when my closet is left with questions, I consult the mighty powers of the big three: Nordstrom, J.Crew, and H&M. As soon as I walk into any of these three stores, the potential outfit ideas start ruminating. With their wonderful selections of basics and essentials, they will mend the holes in my disorganized closet. Below are 31 items from Nordstrom, J.Crew, and H&M that will surely complete my wardrobe.
