Apart from a tweed skirt suit, quilted flap bag, and classic pair of tan slingbacks, no item screams “Chanel!” quite like a black-and-white swimsuit, from shockingly tiny bikinis to high-cut maillots. Dating back to the early ’90s, the French house has designed various versions of the classic beachwear essential, with string bikinis worn by Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer in the spring/summer 1994 show and sportier variations styled with gold belly chains and bangles for spring/summer 2022. Suffice to say, a black-and-white swimsuit will always remind fashion girls—fans of the house especially—of Chanel.

With that, when I stumbled upon a ’90s-esque black-and-white bikini on H&M’s website during my regular scroll through the brand’s new arrivals this morning, I was immediately reminded of that classic image of Turlington’s CC-embossed bikini bottoms from the ’90s followed by the more recent shot of Anna Ewers on the spring/summer 2022 runway. And since Chanel’s swimwear has long been considered one of the hardest to obtain genres in the brand’s archives, I thought I’d share the link to H&M’s chic and $31 alt for anyone who’s heading on vacation and in need of something vintage-inspired to add to their luggage. Scroll down to shop it and more H&M swimwear ahead of swimsuit season.
