I’m not going to lie: There’s nothing that brightens my day quite like a genuine compliment. Since I work in fashion, I especially love to hear what sartorial items incite plenty of kind words—whether at the office, on the street, or on my Instagram. Today, I wanted to share the handful of items that always garner plenty of likes and positive reactions. While you might think this list would comprise only head-turning statement pieces, that’s not the case. In fact, the most compliments I get are about a basic pair of wide-leg jeans—and I know every time I step out in them, I’ll always get a flood of questions and compliments. (Don’t worry—I’ve featured them below.) Luckily, you don’t have to spend a ton of money on these compliment-inducing pieces. In fact, every item below clocks in at under $100. This top is seriously one of my favorites in my closet right now because it’s the perfect combination of casual, elevated, and polished—and so easy to wear with trousers, jeans, and skirts alike. This natural hue is perfect for casual affairs, and I can’t wait to style it with brown suede boots and a cozy knit sweater once there’s a chill in the air.
I love a great button-down, and I own way too many in my wardrobe. But it’s this J.Crew striped shirt that people comment on the most. It’s part of the brand’s fall collection, and it’s the perfect relaxed fit. The contrasting white collar and sleeves really make it pop.
As soon as I saw this during Zara’s pre-fall drop, I had to get it! This statement top is perfect for a night out or a special event and hits on one of fall’s biggest trends—floral appliqué’s—a detail we saw all over the F/W 22 runways. Needless to say, this one gets a lot of positive reaction when I wear it out.
When you get complimented on sunglasses (that aren’t designer) and only cost $7 from Amazon, you have to share! These sunnies have the cool ’90s minimalist vibe celebs like Kendall Jenner are loving right now. The best part? You won’t be too upset if you accidentally leave them on the subway.
