A Cornell research group led by Juan Hinestroza has developed a low-temperature method to create waterproof coatings from discarded textiles, using eco-friendly solvents.
It aims to reduce reliance on harmful chemicals in textile manufacturing and upcycle old clothing.
The study demonstrates that metal-organic frameworks can be synthesised from polyester fabrics.
