UK’s Bira has urged the Chancellor to reconsider business rates relief after official data showed wholesale and retail employment fell 1.7 per cent in December 2025, with 72,000 job losses year on year.
The association said focusing relief on hospitality ignores retail’s role as a major employer, as rising costs, high rates and wage pressures continue to strain the sector.
