European Council has adopted amendments to simplify and strengthen the EU’s CBAM under the Omnibus I package.
Key changes include a new ‘de minimis’ threshold exempting imports up to 50 tonnes annually, transitional arrangements for 2026, and streamlined compliance processes.
The Council stressed the regulation maintains its climate ambition, covering 99 per cent of embedded emissions.
