Michelin, IFPEN and Axens have advanced the BioButterfly project to produce 100 per cent bio-based butadiene from bioethanol.
The industrial-scale demo plant validated multiple bioethanol feedstocks and successfully produced polymer-grade butadiene for BR and SBR.
Technology homologation is targeted by mid-2026, paving the way for commercialisation and lower-carbon synthetic rubbers.
