The 56th GST Council meeting has introduced a streamlined 2-rate ‘Simple Tax’ system, effective September 22, 2025.
Man-made fibre and yarn will now attract 5 per cent GST, correcting inverted duties.
Apparel and accessories priced above ₹2,500 per piece will attract 18 per cent GST, while raw cotton remains taxed on reverse charge to preserve input credit flow.
