The increased tariff at Bangladesh’s Chittagong Port came into force today, causing huge disappointment to port users, who had called for the hike to be put on hold.
The port will now collect fares, tolls, fees and charges based on the dollar exchange rate.
The tariffs will rise further if the exchange rate rises.
Foreign shipping firms operating in Bangladesh have also announced additional surcharges.
