India has formally brought the textile sector under greenhouse gas emission intensity targets by expanding the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme.
Textile units are now obligated to meet emission reduction benchmarks or buy carbon credits, alongside refineries, petrochemicals and secondary aluminium.
The move increases total obligated entities to 490 and is expected to accelerate decarbonisation.
