The UK is likely to be ‘particularly exposed’ due to the Middle East energy shock as it is heavily reliant on imported gas for household energy, research institute NIESR said.
NIESR’s baseline forecast is for UK GDP to grow by 0.9 per cent in 2026 and 1 per cent in 2027.
In a more adverse scenario, the UK would face the prospect of a recession alongside inflation of around 5 per cent later this year.
