US President Donald Trump’s 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods took effect Wednesday, doubling the existing 25 per cent levy.
The move, targeting $87.3 billion worth of exports including garments, footwear, furniture, gems, and chemicals among others, aims to penalise India for buying Russian oil.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs termed the move as unfair, unjustified and unreasonable.
