UCF professor Debashis Chanda has developed a pigment-free material that changes colour with temperature using structural colour inspired by octopuses.
The scalable, angle-independent design enables reversible colour tuning without complex fabrication, with potential applications in smart textiles, thermal sensing, camouflage, displays and temperature-sensitive consumer products.
