US sanctions on India’s Chabahar port project in Iran took effect on September 29, ending the exemption Washington granted in 2018.
The sanctions came a day after UN measures against Iran were implemented over its nuclear programme.
The US State Department said the exemption is no longer justified as it was initiated to back Afghanistan’s reconstruction and the nation is now under Taliban control.
