US small businesses ended the holiday season with modest growth, as December sales rose 0.8 per cent m-o-m and 1.6 per cent y-o-y, driven by higher average ticket sizes.
Transaction volumes were flat, reflecting cautious consumer spending.
Retail sales grew modestly, led by sporting goods, while sales increased in 43 states, with California and Texas contributing most to the gains.
