US retail sales rose 0.2 per cent month on month and 5.72 per cent year on year in January, according to the NRF Retail Monitor.
Clothing stores led gains, up 9.39 per cent annually.
Core retail sales also increased.
NRF said consumers remained resilient after a strong holiday season, with spending supported by healthy finances and real wage growth.
