US Senators failed yesterday to arrive at a consensus for a fourth time to pass spending proposals to reopen the government, extending the ongoing impasse to next week.
The White House said it would be left with the ‘unenviable task’ of mass lay-offs to keep essential government services operating if the shutdown continues.
Democrats have said they will not support the funding bill without their input.
