The European Parliament has decided to request the European Court of Justice (ECJ) to assess whether the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement (EMPA) is in conformity with EU treaties.
With 334 votes in favour, 324 against and 11 abstentions, it adopted a resolution asking for a legal opinion from ECJ on the pact.
The EMPA has received opposition by farmers’ groups backed by France and many other countries.
